Akaroa Treated Wastewater Irrigation Scheme

• Read our Open Letter to all Christchurch City Council candidates asking what they are going to do about the troubled Akaroa Wastewater Project if elected. 

• Read CCC CE Mary Richardson’s letter stating that despite the budget blow-out, staff won’t be seeking approval for the additional funding or consideration of alternatives until AFTER resource consent for the project has been granted.

• CCC staff announce Akaroa Wastewater Project budget has blown out to $167.3 million.  This is on top of $24.5 million already spent. Mayor Phil Mauger pronounces the project “out of control”. 

• The Resource Consent hearing is now on hold until CCC has lodged applications to discharge raw and treated wastewater to Akaroa Harbour and to combine Duvauchelle with the Akaroa system.

• Read the CCC response to 50 pertinent questions asked by the Hearing Panel.
