Regenerate Banks Peninsula brings you "Whale Tales and Fish Scales"

This event will now be run free on an online platform for you all to view and enjoy anytime.

Video links will be available from Thursday 10th March, with details posted on this page and on the Facebook page Regenerate Banks Peninsula - so be sure to follow us so you don’t miss out!

You will hear tales of the sea from a woman’s perspective – not often told in a fairly male orientated world. Tales of privation, isolation, courage, loneliness, and strength, with some added humour along the way! The stories will be a mix of historical accounts, family history and personal narratives.

Speakers:

Sue Ritchie: Tour guide for Pohatu Penguins. Sue has a keen interest in history

and whaling, and has a background in Playback Theatre and storytelling.

Suky Thompson: A well-known local, Suky’s love of the Peninsulas history will be shared with the audience as she tells of the past whaling in the Banks Peninsula area.

Katrina Perano: Local talented artist Katrina will tell of the experiences of modern whaling by her family in the Marlborough Sounds area.

Kat Luper: Kat is a writer and will be sharing her experiences as a sole female on a commercial fishing boat in Alaska, and the changes she saw over that time in the fishing industry.
